Welcome to the mangosteen

images

Mangosteen (genus Garcinia mangostana) is a purple fruit with an inedible pericarp on the outside and soft white, absolutely gorgeous fruit (the size of a tangerine) on the inside.

No it’s not related to the mango 🙂

While this exotic fruit can be grown in any tropical climate and is native to Southeast Asia, it’s health benefits are felt the world over.

Medicinal properties
Mangosteen has been used for thousands of years in Southeast Asia to aid recovery from internal and external health issues.

The external pericarp has been used as a poultice to help alleviate the pain from burns and bruises on the skin, and the soft white fruit has been used to eleviate stomach pains, arthritis and migraines (to name a few ailments).
